What is Mate?

The raw material for Club-Mate is derived from the Yerba tea shrub, native to South America. Mate is the most important alkaloid-based stimulant in southern and central South America, used by indigenous people since ancient times to endure hardships, and later appreciated by European settlers as well.

Its stimulating effect is due to the favorable caffeine content, present in a form that is easy on the body. The effect Yerba has on the nervous system stems from its role as a stimulant, explaining its powerful impact on muscle fatigue.

Mate-Tradition

As Mate tea is a widely beloved national drink in many parts of South America, it is popularly believed to have numerous additional benefits. It’s no surprise that in Europe, Mate is hailed as the “Green Gold of the Indios,” a natural remedy, a magical elixir, and above all, the perfect weight-loss aid that naturally helps with shedding pounds and curbing hunger and thirst.

In South America, Mate is traditionally prepared by placing Mate leaves in a hollowed-out gourd about the size of a fist and covering them with the same amount of hot, but not boiling, water. The drink is sipped through a silver straw, and the gourd is refilled with water several times.

…and if it benefits the body, it’s twice as valuable. Mate benefits the body, as every bottle of Club-Mate contains a full teaspoon of Mate tea. Club-Mate is, therefore, a delight for the taste buds and a necessity for the body.

CLUB-MATE

Club-Mate is a high-quality mate tea, yet smoother and fuller-bodied than a homemade mate infusion.

Hear what the doctor says about Mate and Club-Mate: Apart from the fact that Club-Mate reduces thirst, especially when hikes or sunburn have made it unbearable, it stimulates the nervous system without causing the overstimulation that disrupts well-being or masks the body’s natural need for sleep.
